Art Sanity by Elika

I am really thrilled to feature on more friend who craft on this blog. Meet Elika and her jewellery line "Artsanity". Stunning is one word to describe the collection. She has beautifully and intricately beaded neck pieces and earrings inspired mostly from nature. Her collection named "Hill women" is a steal, you just can't stop admiring the aesthetically and painfully crafted artistic ornaments. Our waste not crayon

When I started this project, I was not sure about the outcome. It came out well, let me share the story. 

We had a lot of crayon bits which were too tiny for the boy to hold. My theory was since it is wax, it should melt and cool down and stay a crayon still. It worked!

Melt away!

Molten colourful wax, so pretty. I was still unsure how I was going to take it out of the spoon. I tried to take it out with another spoon. Then an idea struck me.

I put it over the stove for a micro second and viola, a smooth round pretty crayon effortlessly slipped into my hand!

These scientists, they must feel pretty incredible, huh?

Not a bit of crayon will go wasted in this house, like ever!

Panda House for Daniel

A child's attention span is anywhere between one minute to five minutes. You get them the expensive toys and you can see your money going into the trash in less than ten minutes. I am always trying to make inexpensive recycled toys and other play elements for the boy. It is one way of quick crafting for me. I don't spend a lot of time, patience or expensive supplies while making toys for the boy. It will be destroyed in a matter of minutes, so cheaper, quicker crafts is what I plan when I make stuff for him. 

We have a small collection of Panda's that comes with the Cadbury's Gems packets. Daniel is fond of them Pandas. So when a couple of friends visited us with a box of Rasgulla's, I thought I could whip up a small house for the pandas from the cardboard box cover. I used rangeela tempera colours and camel drawing ink.

The detachable roof. I kept the roof detachable so that the kid can take it out and put it back, like you do in a building blocks game.

The pandas are very happy with their brand new home.

BiiGii and her little shop

I have decided to spread some craft love today. I have tremendous amounts of respect towards people who find time to craft even when they are supposed to be busy doing their MPhil's and PhD's. Bhuvi is one such good friend with whom I can talk about the quirks, the perks and the hardships of all things handmade. She is a passionate jewellery designer/artist who has set her little shop in facebook called biigii's little shop. When she is not looking for raw materials and spending hours carefully crafting unique, quirky, pretty statement accessories, she is doing her research in JNU. Crafting is something she talks about as her way of "creative procrastination".
